Abstract

The rapid adoption of inverter-based resources (IBRs), such as solar energy, has expanded the attack surface of the power grid, increasing its vulnerability to cyberattacks. Consequently, there is an urgent need for distributed attack detection methods that locally integrate with IBRs without disrupting normal system operation. Natural watermarking, which leverages inherent direct current link voltage fluctuations caused by the variability of renewable energy sources, has emerged as a promising solution for attack detection. However, this approach has yet to be demonstrated under realistic conditions. This study addresses this gap by implementing a natural watermarking scheme in both a hardware-in-the-loop simulation of a three-phase grid-tied photovoltaic inverter and a fully hardware-based system. A Texas Instruments C2000 F280049C LaunchPad is used both to control the inverter and to implement real-time state-space estimations, which form a digital twin of the inverter. This digital twin is then used to detect abnormal inverter behavior by identifying discrepancies between predicted and measured system outputs. Validation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach in detecting noise-injection and replay attacks in both testbeds. Additionally, unpredictable direct current link voltage fluctuations arising from variations in irradiance enable the detection of model-based attacks that would otherwise remain undetectable. This study thus demonstrates the practical viability and robustness of natural watermarking as a locally implementable, non-intrusive cybersecurity measure for inverterbased power systems.

Proceedings of the 10thInternational Conference on Catalysis and Chemical Engineering™ (CCE Boston-2026)

Abstract

Methane and carbon dioxide are major greenhouse gases whose emissions have contributed significantly to global warming over the past several decades. In this presentation, I will provide an overview of my group’s research on developing advanced catalyst technologies for the efficient and emission-free utilization of these gases through their conversion into value-added products. I will then present our work on integrating our developed catalysts with membrane systems to enhance reaction conversion and product selectivity in greenhouse gas valorization reactions. One of these catalyst–membrane platforms offer a carbon-free pathway for hydrogen generation and is being further developed toward industrial-scale deployment in support of Singapore’s low-carbon energy initiatives. Finally, I will highlight our collaborative research with shell on electrified catalysis for methane coupling to produce light olefins under ambient conditions, enabled by low-temperature dielectric barrier discharge plasma.

Abstract

The heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) molecular chaperone is composed of four family members that play key roles in the folding of nascent polypeptides as well as the rematuration of misfolded proteins. The cytosolic chaperones, Hsp90a and Hsp90b, contribute to tumorigenesis and represent attractive targets for the treatment of cancer. Grp94 is the endoplasmic reticulumlocalized paralog that is responsible for the trafficking of proteins, such as myocilin, and consequently represents an ideal target for the treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma. In contrast to the inhibition of Hsp90, molecular chaperones can be overexpressed to exhibit neuroprotective activity, which is currently undergoing phase II clinical evaluation. While the Hsp90 isoforms play key roles in various diseases, the N-terminal ATP-binding site is >85% identical, making the development of selective inhibitors challenging. In this presentation, the methods used to develop isoform-selective inhibitors will be disclosed, along with some of the preclinical studies that are currently underway.
